Once you are working your body correctly through the arms and legs you can begin to think about gaining maximum power from each push of the poles.
This can be achieved by taking time to allow the pole to engage with the ground
THINK OF A DOORBELL and imagine that the pole is pressing the buzzer when it hits the ground.
On a general walk, you may only need to create a short buzz with each pole but if you want to increase the workout factor and speed, try taking time to push for longer – creating a longer buzz on the doorbell!
Watch how Denise manages this as she walks from marker to marker
You will recall from the Walking Well chapter in the book that we measure pace with 3 phases. Practising these will give you the ability to create short bursts of intensity on your walks and move between the phases according to what you want to achieve from your walk.
