Mountain pose (Tadāsana)

Everything starts with the Mountain pose – a great way to ground yourself and connect with nature before moving on to any other postures.

  • Stand with the feet shoulder-width apart. Wiggle your toes and – if your shoes allow – lift and spread the toes before ensuring the whole foot is placed naturally on the ground.
  • Push into your feet as you gently allow the crown of your head to rise, stretching out the spine and pulling up through the front of the legs with your chin parallel to the floor.
  • Do not tighten or lift the shoulders – they should be relaxed.
  • Let your arms hang by your sides with palms facing forwards.
  • Take time to notice your breathing, which should be natural. Take a deep breath in and imagine the fresh air filling your lungs and energising your body. Exhale slowly through the mouth as you enjoy the feeling of the earth beneath your feet.
